Zuni carver, Peter Gasper, carved this bear and bushytail and bound them together with their love, devotion, and commitment.  They are carved from Mexican onyx, and have inlaid turquoise eyes.  Their bundles are the same, and each one has a red spiny oyster shell arrowhead, heishi, turquoise and coral beads.

Size: 1.125" H x 2.375" L x 1.125" W

Bears are the guardians of the western gate in Zuni Pueblo.  They are associated with healing at all levels, protection, and a reminder to restore oneself during the winter months.  In some traditions a part of the bear is rubbed all over infants to imbue them with power, strength, and good health.

Wolves, coyotes and foxes all look the same in the distance.  In Zuni there is a word that translates into "bushytail" in English.  You get to determine what this carving looks like to you!

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
