Its head is slightly turned to keep an eye on anything that may be unusual. Made by Zuni carver Gilbert Lonjose from picture jasper in shades of tan and light brown, it has bright blue turquoise eyes. It is lovingly detailed with the rough fur around the shoulders and head, hooves, nostrils, a slightly opened mouth, and tail swishing to one side. GL engraved on the bottom. uffalo, or American bison, roamed the plains in the millions from Northern Mexico into Canada before colonization. Buffalo are sacred to many Native American people. They provided so much the people needed: food, clothing, leather to line tipis and make parfleches which are beautifully painted rawhide containers, tools, and so much more. There has been success in recent years to bring the buffalo back to the plains, especially to Native American tribes on the plains.
Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
