Blue Rain Bird

Cheryl Beyuka carved this blue rain bird from chrysocolla and inlaid red coral eyes.  The lovely offering bundle has turquoise, coral lapis, white clam shell, and hematite beads.  It is signed on the bottom.  More about birds below.

Birds are seen as messengers between this world and the spirit world.  At a meeting several years ago a blue bird landed and appeared to be listening to a conversation.  An elder told the owner of Gathering Tribes that blue birds liked to listen to humans and take their conversations to the Creator.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
