Jayne carved this lovely pair of foxes which are bound together with their  life-long love, devotion, and commitment.  One is carved from dark gray Picasso marble and the other is carved from very light serpentine.  Their faces are sweetly nuzzled together and they both have inlaid turquoise eyes.  Their offering bundle has an abalone arrowhead which is tied on with heishi, red coral, turquoise, clam shell, and a cobalt glass bead.  They are day and night, a perfect balance.  More about foxes and bushytails below.

Jayne Quam is Navajo, and is married to Zuni carver Lynn Quam.  They are both talented carvers who fetishes are highly sought after.

Wolves, coyotes and foxes all look the same in the distance.  In Zuni there is a word that translates into "bushytail" in English.  This bushytail is a fox.  Foxes are playful, clever, quick, and protective of their young.  They also mate for life, and are indigenous to every continent except Antarctica.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
