Albert Livingston carved this sweet little serpentine frog with turquoise eyes.

Size: .25" H X 1.25" L x .25" W

Frogs are associated with rain, and there are many frogs buried in yards in Zuni Pueblo to invite the rain to visit.  They are also associated with fertility since frogs lay so many eggs.  And, in some traditions, frogs are also associated with transformation because they begin life in the water as tadpoles and transition to being able to be on land as adults.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.

This carving was part of a large collection of Zuni carvings which were purchased between 1998 and 2016.
