Navajo jeweler, Alonzo Mariano, added so many details to this beautiful turtle pendant! He set two turquoise nuggets in the center with sterling silver spirals on each end. The shell is overlay, the top sheet of silver is sawed out by hand and soldered onto the bottom sheet that was oxidized to make it black. The eyes are soldered sterling, and the neck has lightening stamp work. Each paw is detailed and has circles stamped on them. The bale is large enough for 8mm beads and has complementary stamp work. The back is stamped "A.Mariano". Price will be polished off the back before shipping.

Turtles have their own homes on their backs which means that wherever they are, they are home. They are associated with safety. When attacked they retreat into their shells, although some turtles have strong enough mouths to snap a finger. For most Native American nations in North America, turtles represent Mother Earth. Every turtle shell has 13 sections on top which some Native Americans say represent the 13 moons of each year.
