Shimmering Mountain Lion Necklace - 22" Long

Zuni carver Andres Quandelacy made this glowing Mother of Pearl mountain lion and inlaid turquoise eyes and a heartline.  The eyes and heartlines are on both sides, and the paws are detailed.  It is strung on soft olive green turquoise with spiny oyster, and lapis beads.  The beads end with sterling silver bead and cones, and a hook and eye clasp. There is a small, rectangular sterling silver tag next to the clasp that reads "A Quandelacy".

In Zuni Pueblo, mountain lions are the guardians of the north, which is where wisdom lives.  They are sleek hunters who are primarily solitary predators.  Full of grace, they move through life silently and with great power until they want you to hear them.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
