Coming Storm Raven

This Coming Storm Raven was carved by Calvert Bowannie from chrysocolla blended with cuprite which is scattered on the front and back light storm clouds coming on the horizon.  The eyes are inlaid jet.  "CP" engraved on the bottom.  More about ravens below.

Corvids are extremely intelligent birds.  Stories of ravens and crows are found wherever they exist around the world.  Beliefs about ravens are prominent in some Native American tribes, including in the Pacific Northwest where there are stories of how raven stole fire from the sun and gifted it to humanity.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
