This proud eagle fetish is carved from Picasso marble and has inlaid turquoise eyes.  It stands with with its beak and eyes toward the sky.  Feathers are detailed all around.  Initials are carved into the bottom but we can't tell what they are.  This eagle fetish was part of a collection of older Zuni carvings and we do not know who carved it. More about eagles below.

Size: 2.85" H x .675" L x .5" W

The eagle is the most sacred of all the birds since it sees the furthest and flies the highest.  It is a messenger who takes our prayers to the Creator.  In Zuni Pueblo, eagles are also the guardian of the sky world.  Their feathers are utilized dance regalia and in ceremonial fans, staffs, and more.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
