Najas are a prominent symbol in Navajo jewelry and are always the center piece in squash blossom necklaces.  I was told they are a feminine symbol, and their crescent shape represents the arms of a matriarch and the generations of the past and future.  It symbolizes ease of movement, paths of least resistance for the family, even during challenging times.  There is a sense of open arms in the shape of the naja that is soothing.  Some najas have hands on each end.

The eagle is the most sacred of all the raptors since it sees the furthest and flies the highest.  It is considered as a messenger to take our prayers to the Creator.  Many Indigenous people consider it a blessing to see one.  In Zuni Pueblo, eagles are also the guardians of the sky world. 

These chunky, sky blue turquoise nuggets with back matrix were strung by Navajo jeweler, Louise Joe.  The nuggets end with a sterling silver hook and eye clasp.  Turquoise is associated with healing and is a good stone to wear at the neck, especially at events or in uncomfortable places when speaking.
