Big Bold Buffalo

Lynn Quam carved this Big Bold Buffalo from a beautiful piece of magnesite.  It has inlaid turquoise eyes and horns.  It is smooth and feels very good in the hand. Signed "LQ" on the bottom. More about buffalos below.

Buffalo, or American bison, roamed the plains in the millions from Northern Mexico into Canada before colonization.  Buffalo are sacred to many Native American people.  They provided so much the people needed: food, clothing, leather to line tipis and make parfleches which are beautifully painted rawhide containers, tools, and so much more.  There has been success in recent years to bring the buffalo back to the plains, especially to Native American tribes on the plains.
